Crowdfunding for Entrepreneurs

Almost everyone has heard about crowdfunding by now, but do you know how it can be used by entrepreneurs?  This workshop will describe the two primary types of crowdfunding—donation and investment—and explain how entrepreneurs have been using the Internet to raise seed and early stage funding from investors around the world.

The topics will include:
  • most popular crowdfunding platforms
  • academic research crowdfunding sites
  • giving rewards for different donation levels
  • donations vs. investments
  • application of securities laws to investment crowdfunding
  • crowdfunding directed solely to “accredited investors”
  • crowdfunding vs. other types of investment funding
  • single-state crowdfunding
  • universities’ use of startups vs. licensing to commercialize technology
